The road to Nationals started back in Fall 2015 with the first game of Viriginia Presidents Cup in the knock out tournament against Beach FC 02B Black. They were off to a great start winning 5-1.
Weekend of Oct 24th-25th then saw the boys in action at the new Virginia Soccer Training Center in Fredericksburg. First up was the semi-finals against PWSI 02B White where the defense was amazing keeping a clean sheet and giving the offense the chances to score. The final score was 4-0.
On an early Sunday morning the boys were ready for the final against very tough opposition, VIST Barrio Boys Elite. It couldn’t have been closer, finishing 1-1 at the end of regular time. Nobody could win it in extra time so after a nail biting penalty shootout the boys held their nerve and pulled it out with a final score of 4-3.
Then onto a hot Memorial Weekend in MD the Argentinos, representing Virginia, made it out of the group stages undefeated. They then beat the wildcards VISTA Barrio Boys Elite 2-0 in the semi-final. Glad that one didn’t go to penalties – they are tough!
In the final on Monday the boys played P.D.A. Figo from New Jersey. They worked hard as a team tying the game in the last moments of regular time with a beautiful top corner goal to take it to overtime. The boys showed great character and dug deep to stay in the game against a strong organized opposition. The winning goal was scored by a great breakthrough run to make the final score 2-1. Great job by all.
Winning Region 1 means we will be representing the entire 15-state region in National Presidents Cup tournament in Tulsa, OK from July 14th through July 17th.
